Factors that govern the articulation of artificial teeth

All of these needs to be taken into consideration when doing a set up. The one factor influences the other. If the one is adjusted the other one is adjusted.
  1. Horizontal condylar inclination
  2. Compensation curve (Curve of Spee and Curve of Monson)
  3. Protrusive incisal guidance
  4. Plane of occlusion
  5. Bucco-lingual inclination of tooth axis
  6. Saggital condylar pathway
  7. Saggital incisal guidance
  8. Tooth alignment
  9. Relative cusp height

Requirements of complete dentures

  • Stability of the denture.
  • Unlocking cusps mesio-distally to accommodate for gradual settling of denture base.
  • Control of horizontal forces by all cusp height reduction according to residual ridge resistance form, inter-arch distance.
  • Functional lever balance by favourable tooth to crest position.
  • Sharp ridges, cusps, sluice ways to increase masticatory efficiency.
