To simplify occlusal concepts, the following principles of occlusion for complete denture are generally accepted:
1.Complete denture patients must make initial and complete occlusal contact while in centric relation. This is called cenrtic occlusion. 2.All anterior and posterior denture teeth inclines and surface must function as a unit during excursive movement. 3.Any prematurity preventing the movement described in principles 1 and/or 2 must be eliminated. 4.Significant disclusion of the posterior denture teeth when a patient protrudes is contraindicated. 5.Anterior tooth contact is contraindicated in centric occlusion.

There are a number of occlusal concepts that can be followed but the main idea is to improve the occlusion of natural teeth by means of orthodontics. Occlusal schemes on the other hand are types of methods in which teeth are set up for a denture. This will include canine guidance, lingualized occlusion and balanced occlusion. These two are different as occlusal concepts are with natural teeth and occlusal schemes are with artificial teeth. These are related when natural teeth oppose artificial teeth, both play a role. Occlusal concepts are more aesthetic based where as occlusal schemes are functional based. http://www.digitalocclusion.com/concepts-of-occlusion http://www.exceptionaldentalcourses.com/Advanced-Occlusal-Concepts-Course.asp http://www.pua.edu.eg/PUASite/uploads/file/Dentistry/Spring2012/RPR431/week8/Microsoft%20PowerPoint%20-%20Occlusal%20schemes%20for%20complete%20dentures%20(outline).pdf
