Lab Week - Expectations

All of you have or are about to experience working in a commercial Dental Laboratory. The week was introduced to allow you, the student, to experience actual cases and actual laboratory experience and input from other qualified dental technicians as to how you can improve on your speed and quality.

I would like to know what your expectations were (2nd yrs) and are (3rd yrs) for Lab week.

  1. My expectation for you was/is that you receive advice about how to improve on your speed and quality of you work. For you to use the advice you receive to improve.

  2. I think that by the time lab week came about I had learnt so much from the block, particularly with regards to my speed of setting up. My expectation during lab week was hopefully to engage in useful hints and tips on how to increase the quality of my setups with accuracy and speed. I was particularly interested in gaining experience on time-efficient wax-up techniques, which I wasn't particularly fast at.

  4. Well my expectations were to be able to work in an environment of professional and skilled technicians. Learning on how to perfect jobs for each dentist as they all seem to prefer different finishes. The rate at which the technicians worked was impressive and the knowledge they have reflected in their work. Disappointing was the amount of respect there was in the work environment and the non-chelant attitude towards staff and student. However, it was a good week overall.
