  1. Sounds like loads of work. Jippee

What is meant with "Include criteria used when completing each case and your reasons for using these criteria"

    I don't like the 3 days of presentations!! :)

I have found that taking good photos for the portfolio takes time and when you are busy trying to meet the deadline you sometimes forget to take photos of the steps, because you are racing to finish.

I dont know how the lab owners will feel about writing a small essay about our performance there.

Besides that I think its a brilliant idea.

  2. "include criteria used ....". E.g. when doing the immediate denture your were given instructions on what the immediate 6 tooth partial should have, ball clasps for additional retention because the denture is an open face and has no anterior support (no flange). Criteria for opening face denture would be:
    1. that no pink denture base material shows between the teeth
    2. Teeth should be individualised neatly
    3. Ball clasps should provide addiquate retention after processing
    4. Ball clasps should not be in the bite (should not cause an open bite)
    etc.
So when discussing the criteria you need to think of what each case requires in order to be a good job. Some criteria are mentioned in literature some not, those are just common sense. When refering to those mentioned in literature, reference it.

The presentations are 3 days because the class is too big to have them all on one day. You will have a 15 minute session to discuss your cases in front of a panel (which includes Mr Steyn).

With regards to the photo's, there is more than enough time for all the cases to be completed, at least 7 weeks (33 days) to complete 15 cases. With proper planning I am sure you will be able to complete the task successfully.

  3. I think that its a cool change from assignments and looking forward to doing it. It does sound like a lot of work but with dicipline shouldn't be to difficult to complete. I also sometimes forget to take the pictures of my cases but managing to take some good ones... Already nervous for the presentation hahahahaha... I aim on doing well on the portfolio and presentation :)

    1. Just think of the presentation as a trial run for the BTech presentations

  4. I think also its something else for a change, but don't like doing it if I already passed my year of written subjects, but still looking forward to something new and exciting. But I don't like the presentation. Think a written portfolio is enough ;)

  6. The portfolio shoulld be considered as a means of reflecting how much you have learned with regards to this aspect, Advanced Dentures. Show that you know that there are more than one method to do a particular job
